Coffetalk, art tip
Apr. 9th, 2026 06:46 pmGrabbed a coffee today, skipped some classes also... In China not only coffee is much cheaper than in my homecountry, i got today's cup for a $1.5 whilst at home it'll be from $4 to crazy $10. My friend is a big coffee expert, i'm not. Honestly, I've tried take-out coffee for the first time this september. It was not very much my thing, but they had a really majestic strawberry icecream at that place but recently it was removed from the menu :(((((
A few feeks ago i meet a new girl and she took me to the another coffee place. I've tried three or four different types of coffee to this moment and, honestly, it's going much better even tho i'm still here for sugar and milk mostly. I got coconut flavoured today.
Usually i don't go through my computer for the whole day, cherishing every hour before sunset lol. There are only one timezone here in China and it can be complicated sometimes for me because i'm not used to sun seting down that easly. I have classes daily, so i try to find a couple of hours before or after them to draw. I am a digital artist since i was 12 and got my first tablet, but in December i immersed myself into traditional art, maybe because art materials here are cheaper than coffee:B or maybe because i finally get an artbook i've dreamed about. It's 'J.C. Leyendecker, American imagist'. What a man!
Now i just copy, trying to find out how to deal with brushes and colours. It's not unsettling for me to see my fails because i've learned about 'practise makes perfect' by myself long ago. Or 'practise makes improvement', if you prefer so.
For years my main problem was, that i stayed, in fact, alone. I've mistakenly been thinking that staying in my room with lights out and drawing all the time will take me to somewhere. Now i'm going out, i'm learning new, i'm reading and i'm finally creating freely. I no longer hate Norman Rockwell lmao. You cannot imagine how jealous i was at 13 years old when i find out he was Leyendecker's student!
It was some loud thunder outside! Lightning and so on, and heavy rain started. I've loved rain for my whole life till i stopped this winter. I was upset all the time, and rain started making me even more upset. But now i think i've loved it again. Kinda life-affirming maybe but i just think the Earth is beautiful.
Chinese people are not playing about rain! Even if it's just drizzling, everyone grabs their umbrella immediately. All of the students, and i mean ALL of the students, have an umbrella in their backpack, as well as thermos with hot water. I've asked my friend from Qingdao about this rain thing, and he said it's just how chinese people are raised. Very logical answer to be honest!
Today i'm listening to Beauty and the Beast 'Evermore' thinking of Hadrian and Antinous and finishing my third artcopy piece, waiting for upcomming trip on Saturday. Nice day so cheering up ;)
